Our Founding
Our Style
The ABKA was established by Sensei Denny Holzbauer in the early 1970s in central Oklahoma. Over the decades the ABKA has grown to almost 40 schools in 5 countries.
The ABKA (American Bushido-Kai Karate Association) is rooted in the traditional principles of Japanese martial arts, with an emphasis on discipline, self-defense, and spiritual growth. Our style is primarily influenced by the core traditions of Shotokan, Kyokushin Kai, and Goju Ryu Karate, alongside a deep appreciation for Okinawan weaponry and techniques.
In addition to mastering empty-hand karate, we incorporate a wide range of Okinawan weapons into our training, ensuring a well-rounded approach to martial arts. Our curriculum also integrates Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), enhancing both competitive fighting skills and realistic self-defense strategies.
The ABKA has evolved into a martial arts ministry, using the discipline and structure of the martial arts to share the Gospel of Christ. We are committed to spreading the message of faith, hope, and love, wherever we are called to go, while empowering individuals to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically through their training.
